Feverfew herb and its historical uses:
Feverfew
is native to southern Europe, but is widely spread through out the world.
It is a perennial plant with branched hairy stems and fan shaped yellow-green
leaves with a bitter pungent scent. The flat daisy-like flowers appear
mid summer to mid autumn.
Feverfew has maintained a reputation for treating migraines, indigestion, sleeplessness and headaches. It also reduces and helps prevent fevers, dilates the blood vessels, relieves pain, kills and helps expel worms and stimulates the stomach.
Feverfew has insecticidal properties. Dabbed on the skin a solution of feverfew is said to be an effective insect repellent, and relieves painful bites and stings.
However as mentioned above its most common usage has been in easing a migraine attack. As well as feverfew for migraines a person should watch less TV at that time as this can worsen or even trigger a migraine!
Also a very useful migraine reliever is a walk. Go out for a walk and look around at the environment whilst walking. Do this for about 20 minutes and then walk back home again. Try it and see.
