Organic Liquorice Root Extract
There is more to liquorice root than just a great taste. It has been used for centuries as a herbal remedy.
(Liquorice and licorice are the same thing. Licorice is the American spelling variation.)

Liquorice root extract - and its uses
Liquorice
was one of the most widely known medicines in ancient history, and
records of its use abound in manuscripts ranging from the Assyrian
tablets of about 2,000 BC to Chinese herbals from the same period.
It is also native to southern Europe and English cultivation of the herb was started in Yorkshire by the Dominican Black Friars.
Liquorice is an expectorant (helps get rid of phlegm) and an anti-inflammatory. This helps make it excellent for coughs and associated conditions. This is why you will often see it used as a flavour in cough medicines etc. They would probably be better if they just used liquorice instead of other chemicals, but I guess they have to try and make money somehow!
Liquorice soothes
the irritation of inflamed or injured skin surfaces. Liquorice
actually
inhibits
the secretions of the digestive system, which makes it useful in
treating certain gastric complaints too.
